Modern renders have advanced significantly and specialist additives such as polymers, silicones, acrylics, aggregate, reinforcement and anti crack fibres have dramatically improved material performances in terms of weatherproofing, impact strength, adhesion, colour variety, colour consistency and lifespan.
Tennison are recommended contractors for the major render manufacturers such as K Rend, Wetherby, Weber and Parex Lanko and can provide a wide range of products to suit any application. The following gives an indication of some of the render system finishes available. Exact products specifications and colour availability will vary with each manufacturer:
Typically a through coloured render with an open texture after being scratched back just before setting.
Available from some manufacturers in standard 'K' and 'R' grain sizes whilst others specify 'standard scrape' and 'fine scrape finishes'.
Typically a through coloured render which allows a smooth finish to be achieved by use of a wooden float, plastic trowel or sponge.
A cementitious through-colour render with excellent water resistant properties.
It is a traditional render which incorporates an aggregate of small evenly sized pebbles into the mix.
An attractive brick effect render, particularly suitable for refurbishment projects where new brick work cannot be used, and external wall insulation. It is normally applied in two coats. Firstly a wet based coat is applied (coloured to compliment the top coat) followed by a different coloured wet top coat. The top coat is then cut through to expose the base coat mortar layer, creating the brick effect. Available in a variety of brick colours.
Stonework or blockwork can be replicated by cutting recessed joints into the render using tooling. Designs may be executed with both vertical and horizontal cuts or as deep horizontal profiles that provide effective shadow lines to replicate traditional ashlar.
Dry dash (also referred to as pebble dash or pebbledash) gives a fresh, hard-wearing, low maintenance, waterproof finish. The final aesthetic appearance of any dash project can vary enormously depending on the colour of the dashing mortar chosen in conjunction with a complimentary aggregate. There are a large range of aggregates available. Dry dash is ideal for use on both render only projects and as a final finish for external wall insulation systems.
Tyrolean is a cementitious cement based render that gives a textured hard waring render finish. Applied using a hand operated or open-hopper spraying machine, the unique ‘honeycomb’ texture is built up using several strokes from different angles until a finished thickness of 4mm – 6mm is achieved. Hardwearing & weatherproof, it is therefore highly suitable for coastal, suburban and rural environments.
